Do good things, It's the only way to survive.

"It's simple really. You can't discuss politics like Syria in a university setting anymore; We have too many Middle Eastern students that think totally different from American students. We can't come to a clear, answer with all of these people thinking wrongly of us". - the genius state university students sitting at the next table.      I don't know what hurt worse, trying to keep with the crowd and eating my soup before it was cool, or the absolute atrocious logic from this "university student". As my tongue and ears burned from their respective assaults I watched as these two people talked of the great imperfections of the world. They were both going to be great scholars and thinkers and had to think of the global issues. I slowly chewed through my sandwich and slurped my soup as I listened, painfully, as they both debated the same small sliver of reality they lived in. I looked at them and couldn't help but be grateful of my "simp

What do you do, when you do to much, but don't have enough to do?

With the fall semester done and my program not actually starting until fall of 2014 I've hit an awkward place.  I don't know what to do with my time. I mean I still work 60+ hours a week, but I don't have brain burning work to fill every waking (and some sleeping) hour of my life! Like, I still have nightmares about just needing to find X! So I'm working on things to start doing to occupy my mind. Here's my list so far. This blog! I want to be move active writing in general. I have no idea where i want to go with this. I want it to be a conglomeration of what's going on. i might write about interesting calls I do. Things I'm learning/studying, recent musings, and other projects.  Returning to YouTube. I don't want to "vlog" or V-log as will start calling it thanks to Danisnotonfire . I enjoy acting, writing, and insanity... so V-logs and skits seem perfect for me... Magic the gathering! *sigh* This is slowly but surely becoming a new thin

Christmas trees and killer bears!

Image
On Monday Eliza and i managed to have mos of a day off together, this being a small miracle in of it's self meant it was time to get into the Christmas spirit! We had been meaning to build gingerbread houses and get a tree for weeks but our schedules weren't about to allow it. But on this wonderful Monday we were able to get some time together and go get our tree! Now being the wonderful, enviormental, tree hugging, good people we are we decided to forgo a the tradition of going and cutting down an evergreen for the pleasure of growing one! We got this sweet heart who is now living on our kitchen table and when late spring rolls around we're going to go find a good place for her to live. preferably in a grove of her fellow kind that will give her insight and guide her to become a big strong tree. However, for now she is our baby. Like all babies she is best kept high up on a table with a bow and wrapped up in lights! With our lovely tree watered and spar

Summarization of My Introduction to Psychology.

Below is the paper I turned in this semester for my introduction to psychology. Please feel free to comment! I know my formatting and grammar aren't perfect and it only helps to have people nit pick it! I have the Drive link up so people can comment on specifics if they like. Thanks! Summarization of My Introduction to Psychology. Nicholas S.J. Southern Maine Community College - Department of Psychology Abstract During my semester of Intro to Psychology I have learned a lot to positively affect my life as a student, husband, and person. Some of these things have been more profound than others. Of all the information we went over this semester the things that have stuck with me most are memory, health psychology, and motivation.      “the scientific study of the human mind and its functions, especially those affecting behaviour in a given context”. (psychology, 2013) is the definition of psychology according to Oxford Dictionary. Psychology being

What I learned from my first full time semester at SMCC!

As the finals are coming and I only have 2 more weeks in the semester I think It's a good time to write down what I actually learned about being a student and how to survive in college. Choose class schedule wisely. I will never ever have another class at 0730 in the morning. I am by no means a morning person. My brain starts running right at about 0900-0930. Why I thought I could focus enough on college algebra that early when I can barely cook eggs that early is beyond me. For the rest of my college career I am going to try to do classes from 9 or 10 till 5 or 6. I have time to get ready in the morning and be home for dinner while still having a full 8 hours to have classes. Use your adviser! This whole semester was really accidental. I didn't understand what registration was saying so when I was signed up and tried to pick up the paramedic classes I was quickly kicked out of them. It wasn't until after I had picked up a full schedule of prerequisites that I wen

Halloween fun!

Image
It's coming!!! Halloween is almost here and now that I'm a legal, responsible, college student I'm going to go way over board! This year I am going to be a post apocalypse medic. I'm slowly piecing together my costume. It will be awesome though. I got the goggles and respirator from an Etsy store called ZHOS WORLD . He's based out of the Ukraine and has some extremely cool gear! I'll just shamelessly show off what I got... These are the stock pictures, mine actually got blue lenses. I have to say, I do look like a bug... but in a bad ass sort of way? It will look better as I get more of the components together. Attempted to take a picture with the jacket but it didn't work very well.

My fall semester.

So for this upcoming semester I am going to use only Google drive to take notes, write papers, and make presentations. Luckily my school uses Google apps for students! I get a free drive with 30Mg and I'm hoping faculty is more Google friendly.  For this semester I have: A&P 1 With Lab College Algebra Intro to Literature Intro to Psych Freshman Interest Groups ~ EMS I'm excited to start a full college load. I know I'll have to figure out what works best for me for studying luckily I have a great campus to study on. This blog is going to become (hopefully) a frequent update on school work and EMS adventures.

NREMT AEMT

Image
Finally! I have in my hands my NREMT certification and my Maine EMS license! Thank you mail man! My pretty little certification Some swag! I don't know what I'm going to put it on. I might get a spring coat and put it on that. Last but not lease my NREMT card!  I'm also signed up for my Paramedic class in September which is good. It will be interesting to try and manage work, school, and life but i'm excited for the challenge. I would be interested to hear some poor medic student stories if People have them.

Unofficially... YOU PASSED!

Challenging the NREMT this weekend was both nerve racking and extremely exciting. I went down to Concord, NH for testing. I took a day long prep class on Saturday from Kat and she was amazing. She was extremely through and an awesome instructor. I learned things that I had no idea about that very much explained why I failed my first attempt at the exam! I was incredibly frustrated with the quality of the equipment at my home exam after seeing what these people use.      I took my exam through Becker Training Associates  and it was amazing how well it was put together. Everyone was extremely professional. The people testing you are well trained and do this every month so they know exactly what to look for. Talking to my class instructor after he said that he always suggest people go there if they fail the first time and he has never once heard bad things from people coming back. I wish my local training centers and testing sites would learn a thing or two from them.      I have

AEMT Class

So I just passed my AEMT class which is good. It was far more intense then my EMT class. I failed my first attempt on my practical exam because I wasn't as prepared as much as I should have been and nervous. (it's 0.4mg of Narcan... NOT 4mg.)   So now I will be driving for 4 hours to go to the nearest ALS practical on 7/21. I have until then to perfect my technique and get my knowledge base up to par. I feel I'm almost there, I just need to fine tune my skills. So here are the things I need to perfect. Medical assessment /medical medications. I can go through the steps. I have to think more about my secondary review (and make sure I use the right Epi dose -.-) Supine immobilization   I'll be bringing my own spider straps to immobilize with. I personally can not make a Pt "flip proof" with 3 straps. IV medication bolus  I spaced on Narcan... never again though. Never. Again. I know every dose I can use as an AEMT. Pedi I/O  I still don't know . I

How to get addicted to Ingress.

Image
Play. That should be the end of this post but I'll elaborate. Ingress is extremely addicting and extremely fun. It's surprisingly satisfying to watch a Buster blow away someones defenses and claim it for the good guys *cough enlightened cough* Here's what I've done for my home town from 01/02 to 01/06. Ingress is a lot of things and has a lot of strategies. Not only are you actively moving to these portals which can be difficult in Maine winters but you have to think ahead about placing links and fields, It's like triangular Tetris. It would be more fun to play in a more portal heavy town like Boston, Paris, or London. I like holding my ground though. I've got 14 portals in my area to hack and link to my hearts content. This winter I'll be driving and running shortly through snow, but when Ingess goes into an open Beta, (I'm guessing this summer) I'll be actually jogging from portal to portal. It's going to be a great way to get ou
