The neo-hippie

In today's world technology is everywhere, my phone is more powerful then my dads whole computer lab. At the moment I'm sitting in a cafè typing away on my motorola xoom

Growing up I had two major factions in my life. My dad, the geek, and my mum the hippe. Between learning how to solder and how computers work I would be running bare foot with my friends in the woods. Now, this has me in a kinda conflict, do I use my gadgets all day to try and conquer the chaotic, busy world of the 21st century? or do I try to find achieve inner peace in the shade of a pine tree? If the world was black and white I could choose one of those. It's not. I have to balance both, I must achieve inner peace in a chaotic world.

Which brings me to neo-hippie's. The new hippies.

Now, I thought came to this conclusion for two reasons, one, neo-, means new, or revived a kind of second coming of the 1960 hippies. two, Neo is the main character in the movie "The Matrix," the movie that made Geek... well cool. So what is a Neo-hippe? A Neo-hippie is the "ultimate hybrid!" They are the hippies that ACTUALLY go out and find ways to use things like the sun, wind, oceans, and volcano's to power our toys and various tech. They aren't living in dirt caves eating grubs and drinking rain water; They aren't sitting in dark rooms eating Doritos and chugging mountain dew, while they play with X,Y, and Z not caring about the environmental and personal side effects of using gigawatt entertainment system that is on 24/7, even when they aren't home!

So I consider myself one of these Neo-hippies, why? well, first I'm a geek, I'm sitting on my couch at home with a laptop on lap, a Motorola Xoom to my left and a Google Nexus S(rooted and custom rom) to my right! I know how all three work and when to use each for a different task.

I'm also a hippie, waiting for morning is my nice little 7watt solar panel from Goal0, the Nomad 7M, yesterday i charged both my Moto Xoom, and Nexus S, today was cloudy except for when I was working of course, so i had to use the grid for that.

This weekend I am going to the Common Ground Fair in Unity, Maine. My fiance and I are going up and volunteering all weekend, While I am there i hope to bring my phone and blog about my experience while being completely off the grid. I also got two small battery packs to go with my solar panel, a 1000mA battery pack from energizer, and 500mA "battery extender" also from energizer, I would have liked to get a bigger one like the 8000mA version, but funds are tight with a wedding and college on the way, so 1500mA total will do just fine. After I get back I would like to do a video review on my Youtube that I'll share on here. I might even vlog as well as blog while I'm there this weekend.

Well, that's all for now. I need to go do over a week worth of homework in two days! I do love a challenge!

     See you later!
Nicholas.
