Americans need metric!

Forget the NSA. Forget the CIA, FBI, and DEA. Forget LMNO and P! Today we have to address the true monster of America! the USCU. The United states Customary Unit, Also known as the Imperial system. Bah, Imperialism. The very name is oppressive! It’s very nature is to alienate us from the rest of the world! How can you ask your Canadian neighbor for a cup of sugar if we’re the only ones that use ‘A cup’ as a measurement! They’ll give you a full tea cup of sugar! They would be not only stereotyping but ridiculous!

Now I know here on the internet we only have content that is clear cut, well thought out, and mostly peer reviewed. I can’t just walk out and start shouting madness and expect you to listen! No! I’m going to give you a very simple reason every american will want to switch to a metric system.  

It’s easier! Done, no argument left! What? that’s not enough? What is this the science channel? Discovery? Scishow? Fine.

Rocket science 101- Why we should switch.

1 mile = 5280 Ft or 1760 Yds.

1 Yd = 3 Feet

1 foot = 12 inches.

Those are all really easy numbers to work with right? yea.

Now lets look at metric.

1 KM is 1 k of meters. 1000 meters

1 meter is 100 Centimeters.

1 Millimeter is 10 centimeters

That is actually easy. Just remember your prefixes and your done! never worry about whether it’s half a mile or quarter. It’s 500 or 250 meters. done!

The rest of the metric system is similar as well. In Imperial volume you have ounces, quarts, gallons. With metric it's Liters, Using the same prefixes we can swap the volumes all around with ease.

Weight or mass we use pounds or ounces. In Metric you use grams, kilograms, milligrams, all same prefixes, all easy.

In medicine we use metric. For medications it's much easier to use Metric. If I wanted to give 4mg of Zofran (generic is Ondansetron), an anti-emetic, to someone who is vomiting I can see on my 2mL vial I have 4mg. So I get a concentration of 2mg/mL. The same thing in USCU would be 0.141096 ounces in 0.067628 fluid ounces... That's clear as coal isn't it?

This is another beauty of the metric system. It's extremely scale able. The same units we use for measuring individual cells is used for measuring galaxies! It is already used in the USA for Medical and scientific needs. Why are we using an old measuring system for "common" people? I understand the aggravation of trying to switch to a whole new measuring system. New measuring cup, new speed limit signs, new speedometers, new bathroom scale! However, It will be worth it. When driving with you're new Metric speedometers you'll enjoy speeds over 100Km/Hr! You'll feel much better about yourself when you step on the scale in the morning and you've gone from 180 Pounds to 82Kg! You'll never have to question whether the that 750ml of vodka is enough for your orange juice... Well... you might as well get 1L just to be safe!
